Weekend of Firsts....
Man. What a weekend. Weather delayed Mike and I's departure to his house by a day, so Friday night we went over to Brandon's house to hang out. Caldwell, Mike, me, Brandon, his wife Krystyl (I think that is how you spell it), Steph and Kivelin were there. We watched a muppet movie I had never seen before, Emmet Otter and something.....it was cute. :P
Steph and Kivelin got engaged that night too! Right before they came over! I am really happy for them, they are so cute! :D
So, Mike and I left Sat. morning to drive to his house in NH. We got there fine, the roads weren't too bad. We dropped out stuff off and said hi to his mom and she asked us to use his truck to pick up a wooden cart thing she needed in another town. So we headed out and got a mile from his house. The roads were pretty slushy (and dirt, no pavement) and it was cold out. There was another car coming towards us on the road, kind of in the middle (no lanes..it is a small road) to avoid the snowy edges probably. Mike moved the car over towards the side of the road to get out of the way of this car and his right front tire went off the edge of the pavement into the ditch. (we were only going about 20mph). We ended up sliding perpendicular to the road for a little ways and hit a rock off the road and tipped over onto the driver's side. We are both fine, I am a little sore, but unharmed. I was dangling from my seatbelt and we had to shift around and climb out the passenger door, which was facing up. Let me just say that doors are heavy, especially when you are pushing it up against gravity. It happened just down and across the street from a house, so we used their phone to call his mom, who came down in her car. We called the towtruck guy in town and he had to bring a flatbed to take the truck out. It didn't look like there was a lot of damage done to the tuck, but the driver's side is all dented and the right front tire was punctured by a stick about an inch in diameter. There is a chance that the frame was bent, which makes it a lot worse. We are waiting to hear back from the garage to see if they totaled it.
His poor truck. It was new too. :(
The rest of the weekend was thrown off a bit after that, but we still got the Christmas tree like we had planned and decorated it and the house Sunday, which was a lot of fun. I cut down my first christmas tree! ok, well according to mom I did it when I was really little, but I remember this one and I did the sawing! :) It is about 12 feet tall and looks beautiful in Mike's house!
So needless to say, this weekend was one that I won't forget, but I am really thankful that both Mike and I are ok, and it really made me realize how easily bad roads can turn against you no matter how much you know about driving on them.
This week was not a good week for tragedies, man. Fire, car accidents....kinda freakin me out. Anyway, drive carefully and wear your seatbelts because it definitely saved my life this weekend.
